Theses in Progress in Commonwealth Studies is an annual listing of MPhil and PhD research being carried out at UK universities.
It is derived from the Register of Commonwealth Research, a database of theses completed or in progress. The register contains over 17,000 records, and its coverage extends back to the 1920s.The Register is maintained at the Library of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. It can be accessed via SAS-Space, the School of Advanced Study's Institutional Repository.
Scope
The geographical range encompasses the former British Empire, the Commonwealth of Nations, and all their member countries, together with countries formerly under British Protection. The exceptions are Great Britain herself, and the United States. Subjects covered include: history, politics, sociology, anthropology, economics, geography, literature, language and religion. Education, medicine, law, science and technology are included on a selective basis.
Sources of Information
Data for the Register are obtained from a variety of sources. These include printed lists, univeristy annual reports, information posted to university websites, and correspondence with university registrars and academic supervisors throughout the UK. This correspondence is of great importance in ensuring that coverage is accurate and as broad as possible.
The Register is continually being updated, and the editor would be grateful to receive notification of amendments or new entries.
