Description

We will be running our next Decolonization Workshop here at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies in Senate House, London, on Wednesday 28 October 2020. The day will run from 10.30 am to 6.00 pm GMT and sessions will be conducted remotely via Zoom.

As on previous occasions, we aim to have a series of panel discussions over the course of the day. Each panel will consist of three or four papers, with presentations lasting for 15-20 minutes. We are particularly keen to receive proposals for from research students and early-career researchers, although we welcome the participation of more established scholars. The workshop will provide an informal and supportive forum in which to discuss work in progress.

We invite summary proposals (of no more than 200 words) for papers on subjects linked to the theme of decolonization, along with a brief biographical note. We interpret ‘decolonization’ very broadly, and are happy to consider proposals dealing with a wide range of imperial entities, regions and chronological periods. Although our earlier workshops tended to focus on the political and economic processes of imperial dissolution and national liberation, we are also interested in work that engages with contemporary debates around cultural and intellectual decolonization, including the decolonization of the curriculum.

Given that we will be connecting participants via Zoom, we would particularly welcome proposals from scholars outside the UK. We will schedule papers to take into account the time zones in which speakers are based.
