MA in Human Rights 20th Anniversary

The MA in Understanding and Securing Human Rights was established in 1995 in collaboration with staff at Amnesty International.  The original aim of the programme was to provide formalised training for human rights professionals.  It uniquely combined an interdisciplinary critical study of human rights with a focus on the skills for securing human rights in practice by drawing on the insights of practitioners in the field.

To mark the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the programme, a celebratory conference was organised to bring together alumni and former faculty, Both the innovative nature of the MA programme and the achievements of more than 800 graduates warranted celebration.

The conference took place on Friday 6 November 2015. The programme featured exciting panels of alumni and faculty to reflect on contemporary challenges in the field of human rights.  A reception to celebrate the achievements of alumni followed, featuring some musical interludes as well from our multi-talented current students and alumni! 

A special edited book was also published to commemorate the 20th anniversary, with contributions by alumni and former or current faculty on Contemporary Challenges for Understanding and Securing Human Rights in Practice, published by the School of Advanced Study and edited by Dr Corinne Lennox.
