Reparations for slavery: keep minds and hearts open at CHOGM

Professor Kingsley Abbott, Director of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, has written a piece for the Trinidad and Tobago publication Newsday on the atrocities of the transatlantic slave trade and its impact on the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

It is not the role of the Commonwealth or its accredited organisations, such as the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, to dictate what reparations for transatlantic slavery should entail. However, they can play a crucial role in fostering and facilitating dialogue among affected communities, member countries, civil society and experts.
