On 6 June 2023, the Director of the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, Professor Kingsley Abbott, participated in a panel discussion on the draft Crimes Against Humanity Convention entitled “At the UN General Assembly Sixth Committee: The Potential and Relevance for Asia”.  Kingsley discussed the relevance of the treaty for Asia and the role that civil society can play in the run up to the UNGA Sixth Committee hearings. One of the points he emphasised was that Asian States should seek to take a leadership role in the negotiations to ensure national and regional needs are reflected in the Treaty.  The event was co organised by the Asia Justice Coalition and the International Commission of Jurists.
