Myanmar: an access to justice crisis
On 4 December 2023, the Institute of Commonwealth Studies (ICwS) held an event in Senate House on the rule of law situation in Myanmar.
An expert on the legal system in Myanmar briefed a group of academics, students and civil society on the challenge of accessing justice in Myanmar since the military coup of February 2021.
Other speakers included Dr Maung Zarni, a prominent Burmese academic and human rights defender, and Dr Daniel Aguirre, Associate Fellow at the ICwS and former Legal Adviser in Myanmar with the International Commission of Jurists, who both talked about the origins of the crisis.
The event was held under the Chatham House rule.
