Bronwen Manby, lecturer in international human rights law on the interdisciplinary masters in human rights, led a workshop on 14 June at UNHCR’s headquarters in Geneva, hosted by the agency’s statelessness section, to present and discuss a draft guide on strategic litigation in the area of statelessness and the right to a nationality. Participants in the workshop included litigators and other experts from around the world, as well as UNHCR staff – many of them already attending UNHCR’s annual consultations.
The development of the guide, authored by Bronwen, was originally supported by the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI), and is partially based on OSJI’s fifteen years of experience litigating on these issues. The guide will be jointly published by UNHCR and the Open Society Justice Initiative later in 2024 or early 2025.
