Dr. Daniel Aguirre is the Global Head of Secure Rights for Blue Ventures Marine Conservation. He leads Blue Ventures work securing community rights to access, use and manage coastal ecosystems and obtain the full range of human rights required to do so sustainably across countries in Africa, Asia, and South America.
Dr. Aguirre was a Senior Lecturer in Law at universities in London, Thailand, China and Canada teaching on graduate and undergraduate programs focusing on international law in practice. He is an expert on business and human rights, specializing in meaningful stakeholder engagement in complex and conflict affected areas.
He has worked extensively with NGOs, implementing a variety of projects on responsible investment, the rule of law and human rights, and environmental justice across Southeast Asia. He was the legal advisor for the International Commission of Jurists based in Yangon, Myanmar from December 2013 to August 2017 and implemented programs on access to justice and business and human rights. He continues to work as a consultant on business and human and human rights and the environment internationally.
