Dr Kiran Hassan is a co-ordinator of freedom of expression and digital rights at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies. She holds an MSc in Social Anthropology from the LSE; and PhD in Political Communication from School of Advanced Studies. She has taught International Relations at SOAS, and Global Communication at NYU. She has been the South Asian expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). She has been a contributor to various media and anthropological research projects with a focus on social media audience consumption patterns with the BBC World Service and Open University. She observes and reports on emerging media trends in 56 Commonwealth countries. Her current research focuses on online violence against women, climate communication policy and digital rights. She continues to publish and present her interdisciplinary work at international academic and policy platforms.
