Syed Badrul Ahsan is a senior Bangladeshi journalist and columnist who divides his time between Dhaka and London.

Syed Badrul Ahsan joined the New Nation as assistant editor in the early 1980s. He subsequently moved on to other newspapers, among which were the Morning Sun, the Bangladesh Observer, the Independent, News Today, New Age, Daily Observer and The Daily Star. He served for a while as executive editor of the weekly Dhaka Courier. He contributed a regular column to the now-defunct weekly First News in Dhaka. Currently he writes for such Dhaka newspapers as Dhaka Tribune, The Business Standard and The Financial Express. He contributes to the online outlet bdnews24.com.

Ahsan has been a regular contributor to the Indian Express and writes for OPEN magazine and Observer Research Foundation, Delhi. He reviews books for Asian Affairs, the quarterly journal of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs (RSAA) in London.

At the newspapers he has worked for, he has written weekly columns, news analyses, book reviews and other articles.

Ahsan served as Minister (Press) at the Bangladesh High Commission, London, between February 1997 and February 2000.Ahsan has appeared on various television talk shows in Bangladesh and has been interviewed by BBC World Service, BBC Urdu Service, BBC Hindi Service, ANI India, Geo TV Pakistan and Voice of America Bengali Service.

He has attended media seminars and conferences in Delhi, Kathmandu, Colombo, Lahore, Islamabad and Kolkata and authored several books.
